I just had an absolutely smashing weekend with two gigs: Galway, Ireland and Antwerp, Belgium. Both gigs were so dope that I was so full of musical energy when I got back home that once I had got some well-deserved sleep, I woke up and felt that today would be perfect for recording a new episode.
I know I’ve said I’ve said this before and in a way it’s a redundant thing to say when posting a mix, but I think this is a good representation of where I am today as a DJ: various styles, quick mixing, different themes, and something you’d hopefully remember after the gig – if this was a gig you went to. Talking about stuff like this feels sort of corny, but let’s just say this is a promotional mix. So, if you like this one, consider sharing it.
One thing that’s become really important for me in both productions as well as DJ sets is that I don’t really “smash it” that much anymore. Sure, you gotta drop some hammers every now and then, but in general, I think the focus is finally shifting back to rhythms, musicality, space, room to breathe, slower tempo, etc – yeah, you probably know what I’m talking about. I think this one should reflect that pretty well.
I’ll also remind ya’ll that I’m not doing the radio sets; I quit them just to keep it more in my own hands and to do regular podcasts (and uStream sets – next one’s on Dec 6).
