Giving something back to the producer community: analog bass samples

Analog bass goodies
Analog bass goodies

Just to give something back to the community…the bass-loving community!

Grab the samples here!

This is a pack of bass sounds I’ve recorded from my analog Microbrute synth. It’s a small, monophonic beast that creates some pretty hefty bass sounds. The sounds in the pack are not anything super dirty, but they have nice (over)tones that will cut nicely thru your mix, and also, they should be something you can sculpt into many different shapes yourself.

LIGHTLESS006 OUT NOW

I’m glad to tell you that LIGHTLESS006 is out today (as of Sept. 15). The manufacturing of this one really tested everybody’s faith and some bad karma was definitely in the air, but not giving up is often worth the struggle in the end, and you know what they say: some of the best things won’t come easy.

I’m super stoked and proud to present this one to you, as I believe it’s one of the strongest releases I have put out on my label to date. It has received support from respected DJs such as Laurent Garnier, Grooverider, and Om Unit, and I hope you like it, too.

You can listen to it on Soundcloud.
To buy vinyl, head to Juno, Redeye, my BandcampBoomkat, Hardwax, or any other major bass music store of your choice.
To buy digital, check my personal Bandcamp page, Digital Tunes, Beatport, iTunes, or any store selling electronic music.

Thanks to everybody for the on-going support…there’s a lot more music in the pipeline!

Yours truly,
Janne Fanu.

Interview: Bite The Belt

Screen Shot 2014-09-03 at 21.42.31

Interview time: peeps of Bite The Belt blog were kind to ask me this and that, and as the result, the interview became what’s probably the longest interview I’ve ever done.
It is a lot to read, but I think some good recent thoughts were covered, and some stuff was revealed that you probably didn’t know and which might interest you – or not.
Anyways, grab a cup of coffee (or many) to make it thru the whole shebang if you’re up for doing some long-ass reading.

A new remix for Amon Tobin

Ladies and gentlemen, let me present to you my official, Ninja-Tune-approved remix for Amon Tobin.
Anyone who knows Amon Tobin knows he’s fucking insane with his drums – and with his everything. One of the true electronic masterminds of our time. And anyone who knows me knows I’m into drums. I think that’s the reason why I’ve always been drawn into his music so much: he’s constantly re-inventing himself, even with his beats. I suppose that’s what we both have always been into.
We connected for the first time when Amon was asking me for some of my early releases for DJ use, and that blew me away. Years later, I was honored for being asked to do a remix of Journeyman for the massive box set on Ninja Tune, and some time after that, I was listening to Stunt Rhythms, and the thought hit me again that I’d love to go in on one of those tunes. I was working on my now soon-to-be-released FatGyver hip hop works in early 2013 and asked Amon if I could do a hip hop remix of 101 South. I got the samples, but for some reason, that remix never really picked up, but I kept the samples. This summer, I went to the countryside, and the weather was just being pretty bad. The inspiration can really hit you when you’re in the nature, so I wrote this one in a few good sittings.
Getting to remix one of your musical heroes is a massive honor. I’m grateful to Amon and Ninja Tune for the opportunity – and all the inspiration they’ve provided me with. I’m not very good with words, so I’ll just let the music do the rest of the talking.
I hope you like it. It’s free. If you like it enough, please consider sharing it.
